night hike 1630-2130
Trail condition: when I left the trail Sunday night there was 6-9 inches of fresh light powder on top of what was a well broken out trail when I started. Upper half has some icy sections that need traction.
Equipment needed; Headlamp (of course). I could have used crampons especially going down in deeper snow but just about managed with micro spikes. Recommend poles, I broke one coming down and found out how helpful two are. Could have used snowshoes on some sections after snow built up but would have to swap out a lot for rocky and rock step areas without a good based yet.
Comments: My first winter hike this year (12/48 NH4k). I did it at night (1630-2130) during a 6-9” snow storm (but no wind and relativeley warm). I really didn’t expect that much snow! I took the lower part of the ski slope down in knee deep man-made snow. Full report in the "Trip Report" forum. I will post a few pics to my blog later.
