My nephew is looking for ideas. I suggested he head up between Madison and Adams. There is ice on the east side and the trail from Appalachia should be broken out. Any other ideas would be appreciated.

There used to be tent sites near the Harvard Cabin along the trail to Huntington Ravine. Perhaps they are still there. One can also camp at Lafayette Place and climb on Cannon Cliff.

Many popular ice climbing areas in NE are close to the road--it shouldn't be hard to camp in the woods nearby.

Dry River CG *used* to be open on a walk in basis. Right across from the Ampitheatre/Frankenstein Cliffs.

Crawford notch is the place to be for sheer variety and a high concentration of routes to choose from. Where to camp? Thats tough in the winter, if it where me, Id use the bunkhouse at Highland center, nothing like being warm and dry after a day on the ice.
