We did trail maintenance last weekend from Loj toward Indian Pass. Lots and lots of bugs, swarming, but only a few bites. Today on trail to Wright/Algonquin from the Loj, there were virtually no bugs. Go figure.

Hiked to Carter Dome and Mt Hight today, very few bugs around at the trailhead and none on the high ridges. 85 degrees, June and no bugs??

So any updates from this past weekend?

I was at Sawyer Pond this weekend, and the black flies were thick! After they went in for the night, the mosquitos that remained were no problem.

I'm doing the same thing this weekend, hopefully we have the same luck you did. In any case I'll be loaded with bug battling gear.

Last Saturday June 4th I Hiked up Blueberry Ledge trail to Whiteface and bugs not much of an issue BUT on Rollins Trail to Passaconaway they were nasty, mostly mosquito and large flies that did not bite only buzzed your head. If you stopped for even a short time you were in trouble.
