Ya Dude! This is unreal! I broke a Mr. X rule and drank some Buds last night on my front steps, straight ghetto style bro, during the week! It was so hot inside I had to escape so I turned on the A/C and let it work, went down to shorts and flip flops, stuck a comb in my goatee and pounded some cold ones. If I was climbing at all these past few days I likely would have committed on the trail or begged someone to off me, like those dudes out west "claimed" to have done out of desparation and severe dehydration.

As Usual...-X

P.S. refer to my avatar, come on winta!

I agree, this weather is bad. The bugs are a lot worst than usuall, especially the deer fly. I can not wat till winter. I have been sticking to the kayak and mt bike. At least you get a breeze on the bike. I never complain about the cold just the heat.

glad I'm not alone then. A guy I work with went last weekend. It's just not fun right now.

I put in on the Sagamore the other day and circumnavigated New Castle...that was friggin' great! As soon as you hit the ocean the temp dropped about 15 degrees and a big fog embankment blocked out the sun...good times!! Keep on paddlin' til October...

I will still take the heat over hiking in the winter. Seeing all the plants alive with flowers and the wildlife active is great. It is also nice to take a summit nap comfortably without freezing to death. Plus, when it is 90 in the valley, a summit above treeline may be 60s with plenty of wind, which is great!

No complaining here. I am a dyed-in-the-wool, pure bred New Hampshire Canuck Frenchy. I LOVE winters. My mother thinks Im crazy because I actually ENJOY shoveling in a snow storm (the snow falling is just so surreal to me.) This is why I really want to try and gear up for winter hiking. I think winter hiking and me are meant to be.

I hear that- I easily get sick from the heat. But I love the cold- I have so much more energy in the winter. Kinda perverse, since the days are so short in the winter.

Hot or cold, or in between, every season has something for me.

Spring - Flowers
Summer - Go light!
Fall - Foliage
Snow - No bugs/mud/sweat, beautiful crisp views

I am a landscaper from 7:30 AM - 4PM EVERY DAY so I have the benefit of aclimating to the changes in weather. I refer to it as winter skin and summer skin.

But... in this heat and yesterdays humidity... I call it.. sweating OUT f my skin

yea, i enjoy my little puny hill hikes on the coast right now. Just enough to get a workout, and then i can go check out the beach. After the last few weeks of the beach, i am getting out of shape, but i have a great tan! Vermont was hot as heck last weekend. bring on the cooler weather, but not that -10 stuff yet though.

the hotter and more humid the better!!!!!!!!! keeps the dilettantes off da trails and out da 'whacks!! :D :)

sometimes i even hike nekkid!! (i got a bandana for when i meet folks on the trail though!) :D :)

i agree with ospreyaboya!!!!!!! :D

Heat Baby!!

I'd much rather have it warm then cold. I love the winter, but you just can't as comfortable in the cold.
Like a previous poster said, much easier to hike above treeline and into the 60's.
I'm a 85+ and humid kind of person. Other people wilt under the heat, I actually don't mind it.

Bring on the Snow!

I'm mostly a 3-season hiker - Autumn, Winter and Spring. I hate the heat and humidity. Plus I never have to bring bug spray when it's 10 degrees out. (Still pack the sun block, though.)

I can't stand the h&h, most of my hikes are bushwacks so I have to make frequent stops for map and compass readings, the bugs love it, but I definitely do not. Unless it's 80 or less I prefer not to go.

I may be senile but I don't remember a summer this h&h for such a protracted period of time with no end in site!
Hiked the Grout Pond Loop in VT yesterday and I thought I was well hydrated but one mile in had to drink a quart of Gatoraid and a package of Power gel.
Bernie was walking like a snail in spite of frequent stops and excursions into the water. It took me two hours to hike two miles with the Berner.
I vow I will never, ever complain about being cold again!!!

After quite the refreshing weekend (of which I couldn't get up to the hills to enjoy the break from H.H.H.) looks like we're right back into it today and tomorrow!

As much as I don't like the heat/humidity in the Mountains, it's not so bad on the bike, where you want to sweat!

Burn, baby, burn!!!

Well, I too am a dye-in-the-wool New Hampshire Canuck Frenchy (or half Canuck Frenchy, as the case may be) but being born in July, I love the summer!

I just got back from a week on the Long Trail and it was great! I enjoy sunning myself on summmits and taking dips in swimming holes and I find the trails to be less crowded than in the spring or fall. The bugs can be a drag but, I had more problems with them in May than I have this July. In fact, during the week out, I think I got two bites. Sure flies were buzzing around but, I think that had more to do with not showering for a week!

I can take the heat but, the cold hurts! Sure, I'll strap on snowshoes and get out some this winter but, for the most part, winter is for hockey! Go Monarchs!!! :D
