My guess is that I would wonder the same if I were to go back now after all of these years. :)
We also did some "bushwacking" off the trail too. Again, I wasn't tempted on the recent visit.

But we did visit Anemone Cave on the recent visit. (Somehow, the signs to it have vanished over the last 30 years. It has also disappeared from recent maps too... The road and parking lot to the cave are still there, just no obvious reason for their existence.)

Ah, 30 years ago was about my first visit to Anemone Cave also. At one point I took about a 10 year break from going to Acadia and when I went back it took a bit of memory lane to find that cave again.

the Precipice-It doesn't bother me now to do it, but I can't imagine going up it without aid of those foot railings!

Books- I highly recommend "Pathmakers" and "Acadia Trails Treatment Plan" both publications of the NPService.

Yes, the Park Service removed the signs and map references back in the early 80s because the site was getting severely damaged through vandalism and probably unintentional trampling also.

Beautiful pics! I did the Precipice a couple of years ago and I didn't dare to look down....I had butterflies in my stomach the whole time. Definitely worth the hike - it's a gorgeous area. I wouldn't fancy descending the Beehive though...!

Sunrise or Sunset from the top of Cadillac.
The Bubbles are a quick, easy hike but very rewarding.

Does anyone have a "must see" area in Acadia (other than precipice/beehive) they want to recommend? We're heading out for a full week tomorrow!

Next time I head down there I'm planning to do the "traverse" of about 9 peaks. I couldn't persuade anyone to join me on our mini gathering 3 years ago.
It would start via the Precipice, go over Champlain, Dorr, Cadilac, Pemetic, Bubbles, Penobscot,Sargeant, Parkman and Bald Peak. Total elevation around 5,500ft if I remember correctly. Finishing with cycling back to Sand beach and a quick dip in the ocean. :p
A big day out in the small hills of Acadia
