I'd post a corrected link, but it's faster to copy the entire report, from "AJ":

Mt Tom - Do NOT use Bushwack, NH People have been posting about taking the Bushwack/ unmarked trail. Please do NOT use this path for several reasons. It is NOT an established trail and it is unsafe. You are hiking along a ledge that is unstable. Especially once thawing occurs you are risking the ledge giving in. Please remain on the marked trails.

It's been nearly six years since I've been on Mt Tom, but I don't recall any popular bushwhacks. The official trail is less than half a mile. It's a good trail for slackpacking if you don't mind sharing your food with the locals:
