Hey all,

I did a quick search and found no mention of this:http://www.trailnote.com/index.cfm

Seems like a worth while idea to me. I do SAR , spend a lot of time solo and regularly lead groups. It is just one more way to stay safe.

Who Will It Notify?
In the event you do not return, TrailNote™ will automatically message everyone that you selected. Your contacts are alerted that you are missing and may require assistance. The message will contain a link to TrailNote.com and provides your contacts with the details of your trip, where you were going, the map information, and your contact information from your profile.

Im just confused about this, doesnt say exactly how long before the alert is sent out. seems like that could cause more problems (sending help when you dont really need it because your contact people freak out).

Sometimes crap happens and you end out much longer than you anticipate. would hate to see SAR getting called just because you decided to add another peak to your hike or whatever.

If you expect to be changing plans, then this is probably not for you. There is a tradeoff between independence and safety. If you want the independence to change plans on a whim, you must either have a more flexible means of communication (Spot messenger or cell/satellite phone), or you must accept the risk of nobody knowing where you are or when you will return.

i think people are just paranoid. stuff happens (not just in the woods).
