"An alert to Katahdin hikers!!! The Helon Taylor, Knife Edge and Hunt Trails [Appalachian Trail] are now open providing access to Baxter Peak. The Abol Trail is closed. This closure is marked by the orange flagging shown in the photo. Please respect this closure and do not pass this closure line. We'll continue to inspect the conditions of this trail. Thank you for your patience."
Southbound thruhikers will be glad but most sane folks will wait until the end of the month to let the black flies calm down. Of course with a late winter this year, it may be mid to late july
