Would anyone know the history of the site where Trapper John Shelter is located?? There is a huge old stone fireplace there, much bigger than the one on Starr King..thanks Lefty E
Follow the old road up about 50 yards from that intersection and you will see a foot-treadle sewing machine rusting away in the undergrowth.
Finestkind, m'dear. The Trapper John MD Shelter!
somewhere I have a photo of that sewing machine....can't find it at the moment...
Now can you name the actors who portrayed the Trapper???
Peaks you got it!! but you also forgot the later TV series "Trapper John, MD"..hint hint he was "Adam" on "Bonanza..."
Pernell Roberts, but that had little to do with the original character.
There actually is a specific reason the shelter was named after Trapper John, beyond the fact that the character went to Dartmouth. It's actually outdoors related.
There are a few places in America, such as Truth or Consequences, NM, named for television shows. This shelter, built by the Dartmouth Outing Club, follows in that tradition. It was named for Trapper John McIntyre from the novel, film and the TV series M*A*S*H. Apparently, someone really liked the show and the character.

While in Korea he wanted to steal a helicopter and plant the DOC flag on top of Everest so that the first climbers up there would find it waiting for them.
