The disciplined group (SueBiscuit, MEB, Little Sister, Giggy, Deb, Darlene, Youngblood and myself) headed out around 11am to place cars after a strenious morning workout in the kitchen.
Little Sister (who is very mean) set up a ferocious pace and after about a 1/4 mile Youngblood had to turn back. Sun was shining beautifully and after hitting the ledges facing south Little Sister found an awesome place to take a break. We could see Chocorua in the horizon and we gobbled in about 3,000 calories of stuff each before the crew started up the headwall towards the ridge. It was Deb's first outing this winter and she was strong and steady and might qualify as a mean sister one of these days
After hitting the ridge I was trying to navigate but that didn't work to well in the thick jungle-like vegetation at close to 2,000 feet above sea level. MEB took over and she got a good bearing towards the lower of the two peaks....the final steep section looked fairly free of giant cornices and avalanche danger so we decided to go for it. Great views welcomed us (except for building, the tower, the pile of propane tanks running the cell phone tower).
Our next goal was the main peak and we brought our sleds to go down to the col which looked real far away. Enjoyment it was.....then we headed up toward the summit cut-off which had a sign that we had gone 2.7 miles in the last 3+ hours. We pounded our chests and spent another 15 minutes or so to cover the 0.2 miles to the tall summit.....another 2,000-footer knocked of the list.......it was cold and windy here and we prepped the sleds for takeoff.....oh boy.....1.5 miles and 7 minutes later we gathered by the bridge......in that timeframe we also helped to turn a snow mobile around who couldn't make it up the steep trail......
MEB was now so exhausted that Little Sister and I pulled her on the sled for 1/2 mile or so before the terrain was condusive for sledding again. And voila - we were at the yellow farm by the road! The evening was spent at a cross stitching class at an undisclosed location.....the next day the word had gotten around that the sledding was wicked wicked so on Sunday we had twice as many people sledding.......but that's a story for another night.....good night
