little bit embarassing but here is my story-

Day 1 of my adventure went off with out a hitch. Up and over North & South Twin, down to Galehead Hut, summit Galehead, and stay at the hut for the night. (#42,43, & 44 NH anytime for me)

Day 2 things got interesting. Hiked down to 13 Falls Campsite first thing in the morning. Arrived at campsite, looked around, took a couple of pictures and left for the Lincoln Brook Trail headed for Owls Head, and then out via Lincoln Woods. Thought for just a moment about heading down to the river to see what I assumed were some falls based on the name of the site. Decided against this (I'll come back to this later). Started along the trail, GPS showed a trail so I thought that was good in case the trail was not obvious at some point, I'd have some frame of reference. Shortly after getting on this trail I turned left and crossed some water, just like it showed on my map. After the water crossing I began to climb up, again just like it showed on my map. Next thing I met a couple of folks and as we chatted I found out they were headed for Lincoln Woods, hmmm, just like me but we are going in the opposite direction(?) They convinced me I was on the trail that goes up to Garfield Ridge Trail. Hmmmmm. So I turned around and headed back to 13 Falls Campsite. Once there, I was 2 hours behind schedule so decided to head out via Franconia Brook Trail and skip Lincoln Brook Trail and Owls Head. Just as I left 13 Falls campsite and nearly got to the water and falls, there was a sign at the junction of Lincoln Brook Trail. So thats where I was supposed to go! When I was there two hours earlier, if I had gone down to the river to see the falls I would have seen the sign. Had a nice walk out to Lincoln Woods, boring and flat but nice. Learned some good lessons today and I still have a score to settle with Owls Head and Lincoln Brook Trail.

Doh!
No worries, I bet most of us have gotten turned around at some point in our hiking "careers". I can think of one such time where I missed a turn in a trail in the Catskills, pondered and wandered looking for it, got back on the trail and wasn't for about a quarter mile when things just "kept looking familiar" did I realize that I'd turned myself around...oh well! Lessons learned!! Sounds like you had a very nice overnighter, and as they say, the mountains will always be there. :) We just have to get you out to Owlie soon, so you don't end up finishing on it!!! Congrats on being so close to completing the NH4ks.

Nice job Keith, you bagged 3 more 4k's. You are now tied with me, CrazyBob, Jim, and Dana!. What will be your final peak? I'm having a champage toast (with a PBR pounder) on Bondcliff in July! Oh the humanity!! Let us know your final peak and we will try to be there!

good times!

great idea, a Munjoy Mamosa to celebrate (champagne mixed with PBR honoring a fine neighborhood in Portland). I'm not sure where I'll finish, maybe just to make everyone ask "why?", I'll save Owls Head for last

Been there, done that. It's kind of a confusing area around 13 Falls.

BTW, you could count 13 small waterfalls there if you really wanted to, but there are really only 5 significant ones there. Most of them require short bushwhacks and cannot be seen from the trail.
