Hi has anyone been to VT Monadnock lately? We thought to escape the crowds and hike Magalloway on Saturday and add in VT Monadnock to make the car trip miles worth it. I did a search on this site and found conditions from last year. Is the trail still hard to find? To reach the trailhead do you go north (right) or south (left) on VT 102 after crossing the CT River?

Thanks. Slowandsteady

I believe you turn right on 102 N, but I am not sure as I have never been up the trail. I did run on 102 from Colebrook last fall though and remember running past the area where the trailhead is supposed to be. I may not be the best source of info though.

I was there last year.

The trail is not hard to find, but the bridge over the river from NH was hard (for me) to find. :)

Go over the bridge, turn right, go about .1 miles, turn in and park in the lot at the gravel pit.

Walk along the left (south side) of the lot towards the back and you will see a sign. You are there.

Nice peak. There's a tower you can climb. Great views

You may or may not have looked at my report for last year. Although I have been in the area recently I was not on that trail. Combining the hike with Magalloway and/or the ride to the border and short hike to Fourth Conn. Lake and the side trip on Rt.145 to see the Falls makes for a very enjoyable trip.

I don’t know what it is about NH/Vt border but neither seem to want you to know where to cross the River (CT). It’s been my experience in several areas that there are signs for every direction but to the ‘other’ State. In Colebrook, if you are heading north or south on Rt. 3, you will see signs for Rt.3, Rt. 145, and Rt. 26 but nothing for Rt. 102. But look for a 3-4 story yellow building (hard to miss) and you are at the turn west for Bridge Street that takes you to Vermont and 102. As stated, turn right at the end of Bridge Street and left into the gravel pit.

It’s a great time of year to be up there and the forecast is great.
