Vermont's Mt. Monadnock

This past summer I enjoyed a hike to the rather less celebrated Mt. Monadnock in Lemington, VT. I am wondering if anyone knows whether there is winter parking available for this trail. I'm hoping to get up there in the next week or so.

Maybe this weekend (Sunday?) if I can figure out parking. I'm always happy for company; it forces me to get up when the alarm goes off.

This may not be entirely helpful, but....

Last spring my friend and I hiked up Dixville (not too far away from Monadnock) where, at the summit, we spent a good deal of time talking to a couple who had snowmobiled up. The man was telling us he was a local, and we actually got on the subject of Mondanock over in VT. He mentioned what a nice snowshoe hike it is, and that he does it often in winter. So at the very least I can confirm there MUST be winter parking somewheres I can't say exactly where.

Here's some good info

Being the curious guy that I am I did Google search on Mt Monadnock VT and came to link to Fred Shirley's web site. He doesn't generally give much detail on his trips, but this time there's a trail map and GPS track. It looks pretty strait forward. Looks like a very nice destination! Enjoy!

I have never been to the new trailhead and don't know what it's like there.

I would imagine the pulloff by the bridge would be plowed, otherwise somebody could stash the car in downtown Colebrook and jog back.

Sorry I'm a little late in joining the discussion, but it looks like you have the info you need.

The only other thing that might be a worthwhile contribution to your posting is as follows (and you might already be aware of it). There is a terrific book that was just published last year (2010) by the NorthWoods Stewardship Center in East Charleston, VT. The book is entitled "Northeast Kingdom Mountain Trail Guide" by Luke O'Brien. Within this book, there is an entire chapter devoted to Monadnock Mountain that runs from pages 116-123. These pages contain maps, trail descriptions, and a bit of history and geology thrown in as well!

Don't know if you went yet, but I was in Colebrook area today and checked the trailhead..it was gated and chained..with a sign saying mud season, closed from April 15 to Memorial Day..it did not look like it had been used in quite a while, though the business (sand and gravel) had plowed an area inside the gate..not much room to park nearby..hope this helps..
