John, as it turns out, we have a guided tour booked for El Yunque!

Very cool. But the hike is more of a stroll, so why the guide? IIRC there is fire tower on top.

Well, we're going to be there 4 days, and I booked 4 guided tours, so I chose not to rent a car. I'm sure we are capable of the hike, but I just decided to go 'tourist' for this trip. I'm hoping that the guided tours will be worth the extra bucks in local knowledge.

I think you are going to be disappointed with El Yunque. We were. It's a nice hike, ...... but. I didn't mean to burst your bubble ...... enjoy your trip.

If you ever want to go to St. Maarten, let me know. I own a condo there. Beautiful beaches, great food & drink nearby, and very nice locals. Not a peakbaggers paradise, but still lots of fun!
