Well...after years of effort, how many weeknd trips? how much gasoline?, thruway tolls? I finally got my winter 46. It was Sunday March 2. I was accompanied by Robert and Sean. Sean needed Allen, Robert has done Allen in the Summer. Gentlemen a big THANK YOU for joining me on my Winter 46th peak. The cost, as my other half asks...she always wants to know the financial costs. What did it cost me...I saw alot of really great winter sunsets while hiking out after a getting a peak, saw some great snow scenes, views from the summits...no price can be put on those, above treeline in winter...nothing comes close to that feeling of being up there, covered up and holding on because you are being pushed around by the wind (well, maybe running a waterfall in my kayak is equal to that summit feeling). the burning thighs on ascents, the great butt slides on descents, the folks I met/hiked with, that sound lf the wind at night while camping out, that winter night sky filled with stars, seeing martens. The list can be longer, I can vetch about the spruce traps, busting through mega drifts, a few blisters on the fingers from super cold mornings...but I still say if that is the cost of admission for all I saw and did...it was worth the price.
