I think I know the anser to this, but if anyone can confirm.
Is there any water on along the Carter Moriah Trail between the North Carter Trail and the Carter Notch Hut? I am going to be going up the Imp Loop and hiking over to the hut next week and I figure I will not be carrying a filter, but will be carrying a lot of water.

There are two places where water can (but is not guaranteed) to be on the Carter-Moriah Trail. One is marked with a sign as you are descending into Carter Notch. At that point, you're so close to the hut it's really not worth it, IMO. The other would be Zeta Pass. Unless it pours the day before, I would count on carrying your own water. Carry an extra liter instead of the filter.

I think there is a spring somewhere near Imp Shelter..... but I'd just as soon bring the water your going to need.

Thanks

MichaelJ and SJ - Thanks for the tips...Imp Spring would require backtracking as I will be heading the other way on the Carter Moriah Trail...
Looks like I am carrying a lot of water...

I did this hike in the other direction about a week ago. The North Carter Trail was just pouring with water most of the way up, though I didn't need it (I had spent the night at Imp Shelter and filled up there, then tagged Moriah and then backtracked). In fact I don't recall stopping for water anywhere between the 19 Mile trailhead and Imp Shelter (we had lunch by the lake at Carter Notch but I don't remember pumping). There were some boggy spots but since you're up on the ridge there are not a lot of good streams. You're only talking about three miles or so from the N Carter Trail to Zeta Pass, then the same to reach Carter Notch, so personally I'd prefer the weight savings of relying on a filter, but I don't know your pace & I haven't checked the forecast.
