Mount Roberts is one of my favorite mud season hikes, a trail that is snow free early in the season (low elevation, southern exposure) with excellent views of Lake Winnipesaukee from the many open ledges, and views of the White Mountains from the summit area. Last year I discovered the wonderful Brook Walk, which starts and ends on the Shannon Brook Trail but descends to follow the brook closely, passing six named waterfalls.
Last Sunday driving back from Boston I felt too tired to hike Mount Roberts, so instead spent three hours along the Brook Walk enjoying the falls. The most impressive are the Falls of Song at the start (bottom):
