Hi Matt, Congratulations! It's to bad you didn't make it to Rusk/Evergreen the next day but, oh well, Jay and I had a good hike. As Josef says above, we are going for our 35th on Tuesday, ending on Fir. The weather's supposed to be great. Anyone care to join us?

Fred and Josef-I can't get away from work this week, but I look forward to seeing you at the dinner. Good luck on your Fir finish. You might have some formidible stream crossings at along the Biscuit Brook Trail, if you go that way.
I'd also look for lots of mud and soggy snow. Josef, I'm not sure you'll want the Jack Russels on this one. If you do chose to go over Hemlock and Spruce, you can at least avoid the Biscuit Brook crossings.

Matt

The usual bushwack point for Fir is usally right after you cross the biscuit brook and the leanto. Then take a bearing to Fir and head up. If the brook is too strong to cross, I would simply take the same bearing before the brook and head upstream from there, looking for a good spot to cross the stream when it occurs.

Or you could do what I have done before in Black Rock Forest in Orange Cty... Build an impromptu log bridge!

Jay

When I went up to Fir I didn't cross the brook but went up as Jay suggests before the lean-to.
