Looks to me like the Westside trail before it meets with gulfside....

That, or on the second 'peak' on Clay on the gulfside right after the long flat spot on the summit, but I think it's the westside...

Definitely looking north from the edge of the Great Gulf on Washington - viewpoint is south of Clay. Probably the gulfside trail, but I think there are some short connecting trails in the area it could also be.

I think I've found the same boulder in the foreground:

similar angle from ~Gulfside When I took this I was intending to head North from the summit, I recall I accidentally took the wrong trail and went down a bit more westerly than I wanted, took a connecting trail to the Gulfside. I'm pretty sure I had found the Gulfside before I took this shot.

For a better idea of the location, here's a reverse angle from Jefferson. The trail is on the near side of the tracks, very close to the edge of the gulf, almost directly below the summit building (but a bit to the right). Here's another reverse angle, this one from Clay.

Looks like it was taken standing not far behind this picture, which was on the Gulfside heading to the Jewell just a little ways past the Wilderness Area sign.

Although I've never been there, I think the three peaks from L to R are Mts. Clay, Jefferson and Adams. Many times I've hiked Mt Washington and Caps Ridge and down to Sphinx Col, but never up and around Mt. Clay. A beautiful picture from Mt Clay of the Northern Presidentials hosted at VFTT has me really looking forward to hiking around Mt. Clay this summer.

I wonder if they've updated the map for the southern-most section of Slippery Brook Trail. It was moved away from the river and up to the old logging road prior to the last updated map publication, but the map still shows the old route. I just saw another map (National Geographic?) with the same mistake.

Happy Trails :)

Yes, Clay

One of my favorite places in that area. You get to split off from the masses and spend some alone time while soaking up the views.

I found the spot again this afternoon. The big boulder is by the junction of the Westside and Gulfside trails. The photographer is a little above this junction, probably on the Westside (I came down via Trinity to Great Gulf to Gulfside, and didn't find this exact view)

May 7 according to Amazon

Looking at the price it appears they are only doing a simple revision. I wonder why they bothered with that survey last year, asking tons of questions like "would you like to see *such-and-such* in the new edition." and asking for suggestions. All that time and effort spent just to put out the same book as the 27th edition only with an update on trails????? :(

This new edition was nearly completed when they did the survey. They were looking ahead to the following (29th) new edition.

But, it's not a real peak so why would anyone go there?
