OK... two beautiful days, no work to hassle with... So, any thoughts? I am in the Hudson Valley, rather be hiking the driving, so somewhere in the valley

I am debating about the South Taconic area, maybe string together Frisell, Brace, Alander, etc, or something in the Catskills.

Now I know this is short notice, but the bag is packed waiting by the front door at home, ready to leave. Would prefer an overnighter...

Any thoughts? It should be a busy weekend anywhere, starting to hit prime tourist/leaf season here in the Hudson Valley.

Thanks all, and I hope you are all out on the trails too!

The Frisell, Brace, Alander loop is a great hike, and is less crowded than the AT on Grace and Everet. I'll be back in this area next weekend.

Have fun

I'm leaving the Undermountain parking lot in CT with my 2 boys at about 4pm today. Heading up Undermountain to the AT and camping with tent at Brassie Brook Lean-to. After setting up we may take a quick walk down to Riga Lean-To. Tomorrow morning we're going out over Bear toward Sages and back to Undermountain via Paradise, if you'd like to join us, then you could head further up the AT or over to Frissel.

South Taconics would be my first choice although a lopp with some of the Devil's Path or in Blackhead Range might be nice & a little higher & some of those views might be more colorful as CT is still pretty green.

I know the S. Taconic trailhead closest to Brace & South Brace is not meant for overnight parking so plan accordingly. (Used to have a sign)

The northern Catskills are still mostly green, no more than 1% of the leaves had turned as of Wednesday 9/28. There was some bright reds just starting to appear north of Lockwood Gap between Blackhead and Black Dome. The Camel's Hump west of Thomas Cole (which is very windy) had already experienced a 40% leaf drop, probably more now after Thursday's high winds. I would not expect great color at windy summits this year in the Cats, but the slopes should be nice once they start to turn.

Anything should be a nice hike this weekend - though still late summer green in this area.
