After nursing my wounds from my last climb in the Wildcats, I recovered and felt that another hike was due. Instead of wallowing in my room that I could not hike, a contrary choice was made to climb Isolation. The route was to be ambitious: Glen Boulder, Davis, and down to Rocky Branch.

Starting at 1100 in true Ray Loring fashion I began the climb over the Diretissma and was cautious most of the way to not go fast and wreck my ankle. The contingency plan was to bail at Glen Boulder.

Pulling through the steep leg of Glen Boulder I finally made it. A feeling of pride that I also could tinker my route and poke around the Presies instead of Isolation. The climb past the Gulf of Slides and the stunning views made this short notice choice worthwhile.

Arriving at the Davis Path I was resolved to continue. The descent into the Dry Wilderness was rapid but was glad to see that the blowdowns on the Davis Path were gone. This is a beautiful trail and would like to do the whole thing soon!

By Isolation I felt weary and pushed on for the last stretch to the summit. At last I was on Isolation and was rewarded with views and good company to share it. A feeling of joy overcame in climbing this solitary 4K in the wilderness.

Descending down Rocky Branch, it was a nice trail. But I had a long day and wanted out. The path took its revenge on me with mud and stream crossings, that I took a picture of.

But in the end of it all, some ambition power took my youthful whim of a late start and managed to climb another 4K.

Hey Clarke,
nice TR and sweet new Avatar on Glen Boulder:cool:. Sorry that I cannot accompany you. My knee is still ailing me. Getting an MRI and starting physical therapy this week. Will be in touch when I am ready to hike again - hopefully before you finish the list!

Best regards,
Marty
