Flames were visible from the Intervale Scenic Vista Sunday night. Dry fall conditions and brisk winds contributed to the spread of the wildfire. (MIKE FAIRBANKS PHOTO)

Fire burns 119 acres in Lucy Brook area
Dry fall conditions and brisk winds help a wildfire spread to 119 acres by 3:30 p.m. Monday behind Cathedral Ledge in the Lucy Brook drainage of the Saco Ranger District.

From what I have heard from North Conway, it's about here. The report I got said it's not directly where the Attitash Trail runs, but on the south side of Little Attitash ridge.

I was in N Conway yesterday and saw the smoke and wondered what it was. The location given in the link quoted above looks to be about right. The smoke was coming from roughly the backside of Attitash ski area and not north Moat.

Fire is reported 85% contained

WMUR 9:

"White Mountains Fire Mostly Contained

POSTED: 5:20 pm EST November 16, 2004

BARTLETT, N.H. -- Fire crews said Tuesday that they have contained a forest fire that burned 120 acres in the White Mountain National Forest.
The fire is the largest ever to burn in the state's national forest land. Crews said the fire was 85 percent contained by Tuesday evening.
Officials aren't sure what sparked the fire Sunday but said it was most likely a campfire that got away from a hunter or hiker.
Crews will return to the area Wednesday morning to make sure the fire is still contained."

Note that 120 acres isn't that big a fire on a national scale, or even a historic local scale. The Zealand Valley fires of 1886 and 1903 burned over 10,000 acres each -- but this was prior to Forest Service ownership of that land.
