Annie and me were back to the ADK yesterday.
For our first hike in the ADK after our come back from the trek to Everest base camp we decided to do Whiteface. Annie dont want to go the day before, sleep there, to had an early start, to do one of the 4 peaks remaining to our list. She want to have a no stress friday. First I tried to find the traihead at the Atmospheric Research Center. I went there but I was not sure, because there is no sign over there.
So we started at the reservoir.
Last time we did Whiteface was in 2004.
We start at 8.15h and the temperature was 22F/-5C and it stays like that all day. It was good to be back in the ADK after 2 month. We missed these mountains and that region, even if we were in the highest mountains of the world for a month. Today, we had the summit only for us. We were alone on the top all the time we stayed there.
First part of the trail , from the reservoir to the ASRC jonction has almost no snow. From there to the road we had a few icy patches and 2" of snow. After the road we had snow from 1/2" to 8-10". We carried crampons and Stabilicers but didn't use them on our way up. But we decided to used our Stabilicers on our way back down, it was not necessary.

Views were awesome today! The sky was blue all day, a wonderfull day, and almost no wind to.

Pictures are comming.

Hi Yvon,

Welcome back to the Dax!

We did the same trail as you yesterday (Sunday), only we turned off towards Esther. It was a beautiful day also with the temperature hovering around the low 20sF (-5c) all day. The sky was very blue and the trees near the top were encrusted with frozen very white snow making a nice contrast.
It was great to be back in winter conditions.
Trip report and pictures to follow also.

There's a sign in the parking lot, saying ''hiker's parking'', but the Reservoir is a good choice, IMO, because the trail has a better footing than the ARC one. Especially at this time of the year, I bet it's very icy, and bad for the knees.

Welcome back in the DAKS !!

Merci Julie,
I saw that sign, but I was not sure it was the trailhead who go to the Whiteface and Esther trail. I will know for next time.
