The weather forecast proved accurate, justifying the putting off of all responsibility for another day and continuing with our hiking obsession.
Long pants and other layers came off within the first 1/4 mile as we enjoyed the last day of Summer. We took the Blueberry Ridge Trail up to Whiteface. Joyce remarked that she didn't remember this trail, although we have used it several times in the past. I think this is because in the past we had some kind of peak-bagging goal, and our minds were on the finish. The Blueberry Ridge has a good deal of bare ledge, and gets steep at times. At the end the poles went into the pack so we could do hand- and- foot rock climbing over the steep rock faces below the summit of Whiteface.
The views to the south were fantastic, showing the Ossipee Range, Winnepesauke, the Ridgepole and Squam Lake.We looked at the Ridge we would follow as we took the Rollins trail to Passaconway.

The Rollins Trail was LONNNNNNNNG, just as we recalled it. At the Cone of Passaconaway we chose to do the loop clockwise, which was a good choice as there are switchbacks to aid in the ascent. Going down the Walden on the return, we had loose gravel and steeper conditions.

We returned to our car by the Dicey Mills Trail. It was a long day, but the weather and the view were fantastic, and our reward came at "The Pig Place" on the way home. We did hike off and on with a couple of young ladies who were working on the NH 4000 footers.
