I'm trying to do a little planning and could use some information regarding current conditions on the standard loop from Ferncroft (Blueberry Ledges, Rollins, Dicey's Mill) to Whiteface and Passaconaway. From the lack of reports it seems the place has been deserted.

Does anybody have any recent experience with the area.

Any current information would be greatly appreciated.

Hi BIGEarl, Larry and I hiked Passaconaway today from Ferncroft via the Dicey's Mill Trail. The trail was mostly snow and ice free until the Wonalancet River crossing at 2.3 miles. We put on micro-spikes shortly afterwards, which helped to keep us on the well consolidated "monorail". The trees were loaded with ice from the former Camp Rich site to the summit. There was a very short section of the trail, close to the summit, that was icy but easily doable.

Our snowshoes remained on our packs the whole day. We also met a hiker doing the loop from Whiteface, who also booted it the whole way from the parking lot. He said that the lower ledges on the Blueberry Ledge Trail were snow and ice free and that there were no big problems up higher. Post holing was not a problem on the Rollins Trail as well.

The snow became a little mushy in the afternoon but we did not posthole at all.
