Sept. 24th.

If you were not fatigued by our efforts on Tuesday, well documented by Cymbidium under Autumn Equinox, well....we were, so we voted for something a lot shorter and easier for our Thursday outing.
A perfect day for this relatively short hike. Clear skies and views of the Presidentials were unsurpassed. The slope was recently mowed and the only mud spots were where the big machines had worked on the water bars, work which will be fully appreciated by skiers in just 2 months!
Mountain Ash trees were abundant and with more berries than we have seen in years. At the top the wind was blowing, measured 20-25 mph by Silverfox on his new toy. The observation tower at the peak remains closed and barred with many slats so we retreated to the back of the old ski lodge where we sought refuge from the wind and enjoyed our time in the sun. Joined by two section hikers heading over to the Carter Notch Hut for the night who enjoyed some blueberries picked just last evening from my bushes!
On the way down it was hard to watch the ground as the views were so breathtaking. One zipline crossed overhead just as we came to the bottom. They were moving much faster than we were!
A promised icecream finished off our morning before heading home. Silverfox took lots of pictures which will be available on his website. Cymbidium and Finn the dog rounded out the group along with (the always)

An excellent hike, I agree, with nice wildflowers and views and excellent wildlife potential.

happy trails :)

This almost felt like a day off after a couple of recent longer hikes.

.Freshly mowed with great footing , great views at every step..foliage starting to come on strong.. Excellent day out in the Whites..it is a shame about the condition of the tower and Gondola building on the summit...just wasting away...
