Under ideal conditions, I will be leading a group of hikers up Wildcat on Saturday. This is a random group of people from work; levels of conditioning, skill and preparedness may vary. Due to the rugged nature of the wildcat ridge trail, I may need to shift the hike to an alternate location if things look wet and dangerous. Therefore:

Can you recommend a hike appropriate for a mixed group in moderately foul weather? I'd prefer it to be in the pinkham notch area because it's close to our lodging, but can be flexible.

thanks!

I'll second Carter Notch Hut. If you're looking for a little more of a hike you could make a nice loop out of Carter Dome. If it should clear up any you'll have excellent views from Mt. Hight. (Carter Dome has views West from the North West part of the ridge, but not like Mt.Hight)

The water crossings along the Nineteen Mile Brook, Carter Dome, and Cater-Moriah Trails in that area are not too bad even after a moderate rain. As far as the trails, the north side of Mt. Hight on the Carter-Moriah Trail is real steep as is the south side of Carter Dome (steep, but not real "ledgy"). Mt. Hight can be bypassed via the Carter Dome Trail. The Nineteen Mile Brook trail is much easier. (7.6 miles, 2000' gain to the hut and back) (10.2 miles, 3450' gain for hut and Carter Dome loop)

Carter Dome is easier than the Wildcats almost anytime. :)

Remember, flash floods are possible almost anywhere with enough rain.

thanks!

I like the look of Imp. Perhaps we'll give that one a shot. Thanks for the suggestions.
