After 9 long month to wait for the new winter here whe are in the winter.
My first hike of the winter:
December 22: I drive from Mtl-saddleback ski station and arrived
at 6:30 pm. I changed my clothes and went hiking
by the ski trail. Nice to see the light at mid mountain
and the ski chalet. I went to the top of the ski station.
From there I follow the trail to the summit and I was in
the fog and the dark and it was 7:30 pm. I try during
15 cold minutes to find the trail to the Horn and after
many bad try I decided to return to the ski station and
the chalet at mid-mtn. The door was not locked so I enter
and make myself confortable and sleep on the cough until
4:00 am. After a couple of snack I went again to the top
of the ski station. Again in the fog and dark so this time
I don't went to the summit and wait until 6:00 am in the
small building on the top of the ski station. At 6:00 am the
fog was still very dense so I decided to go down to the
parking lots and skip the Horn for this time.
December 23: I was back at my van at 7:00 am and I drive to the Old
speck parking area. By chance the trail had been broke by
a group of hiker the day before so I followed their track.
For the last 3/4 miles the trail was not broke and I broke it
to the summit after traversing many false summit. Again in
the fog but not in the dark.....
December 28: Raid in the Green Mountain planned with Pierre (Oncoman)
and Jeremy. Our plan was to try to summit the 5 peaks
of 4000 k in 24 hours. At 4:00 I went searching for Pierre
in the small parking area at the end of road 108-Mansfield
and I find Jeremy. By the time Jeremy prepared all his gear
I went searching for Pierre and he was not there. At 4:30
me and Jeremy went hiking in the ski trail in direction of
the Cliff restaurant at the top of the Gondola. Before 5:30
we where at the Cfill rest and we wait between the two
doors until 6:45. We decided to go for the summit even if
we where in the fog. We follow the steep trail to the ridge
and on the ridge it was cold and windy. We find the
summit and after Jeremy photos we went down to the
ski station and our car in the parking lots. We finish at
9:00 am. In the parking lots we see Pierre van so I let him
a message. I and Jeremy went for the Camel Hump
lots. Manny car over there. We hike the Camel hump
slowly and we made it to the summit and meet many hiker
The way down was more easy so we went faster and
finish at 2:00 pm. Again we where in the fog at the summit
We took our time and went to Waterburry and we had a
soup and lunch. We went for Sugarbush and lets my van
at mt Ellen ski station. We drive to Lincoln ski area and at
4:00 pm we start our hiking for Lincoln Peak. Very strange
feeling to start a hike went all the skier are leaving the ski
station. We went slowly in direction of Lincoln Peak and
we follow the more direct trail to the summit. We had no
difficulty to find the Long trail at the summit of Lincoln. we
follow it until Abraham mtn. Again in the fog at the summit
and Jeremy took some picture. We went bak to Lincoln
Peak and we follow the Long trail until Mt Ellen summit.
More photo by jeremy in the dark with his Cannon sureshot
camera. We went down fast by one easy trail. We finish
at 9:45 pm and I went solo to Killington. I arrived at
11:15 pm and went to sleep in the parking area. Just
went I was starting to feel asleep one gardien woke me up
and tell me that I cannot sleep in the parking area. So I
drive again and I sleep in my van at the first restaurant
parking that I saw. I wake up at 5:30 am and the weather
was some freezing rain. I went to the ski station and
started my hike at 6:30 in crampoons. I made it fast to
the summit of Killington and went down before 8:30 am.
After that I drive home and relaxed with my familly.
January 13 Slide-Hunter in the Catskill.
In the morning I hike Slide solo very fast. For the first time
this winter I was not in the fog and I had some very good
point of view. No snow at the beginning until 3000 feet.
About 1-2 feet of snow at the summit. I went down in
running. Total time 1:50 minute for 5.5 miles.
In the afternoon I hike Hunter with my good friend
Marie-Josée. We hike it slowly and we where at the
summit at 4:00 pm. Very good view in the fire tower.
We went down and on the top portion we had difficulty,
with the packed snow and ice with our stabilizer. I had
let my packsack and crampoons in the van. Some time I
under estimate the mtn. We went down slowly and
carefully until the slope was less steep. We finish at 5:15
pm and we drive to mtl. Very long drive for two small
hike.
Only 12 peaks to complete the W-115 list.
