Forecast 8-12" Concord, NH and South, 6-10" in the mountians starting early Monday morning and lasting all day! NECN reports it will be almost exclusively a snow-only event. Then the cold weather is expected to be locked in for the foreseeable future (10-14 days). Good news! I'll let Mattl and the others fill in the details.

have fun,
Bob

Too bad I won't be able to enjoy the "Woof! Woof!" for very long. If it comes, my wife (and her co-workers) are gonna want to skull me with a frying pan. They accuse me of doing "snow dances" in December. (Good thing they don't know about the cloud seeder in the garage . . .)

So, winter is certainly back, and for people who want it to last, it looks like it will. Monday is looking better and better and tomorrow (Sunday) the model runs will be very important on the final low track. Right now it is looking like a widepread 6-12 across a lot of southern NE, and into central NH and Maine. If the low is further west and north the heavier snow will shift north, which looks like it could happen. I will update tomorrow when there is a better grasp. Also note, the end of the week a large storm is on the horizon followed by possible bitter cold. -Mattl

I am worried about this storm for VT, NH, and ME now. The new model runs have really trended the low further east. So I think places like Plymouth MA are going to see the most snow. So if you live in southern NE it looks like 8-14 inches is going to fall in a lot of areas. I think the southern Whites will get 3-6 maybe. This could change, but the track is looking like this will be it. -Mattl

Its far simpler to forecast a snowstorm, just plan on a big one the day I have to fly out of Portland for a business trip :D . Been pretty darn accurate this winter!

It can't come soon enough...

Pretty rugged weekend in the Whites for downhill skiers... most of the trails at Waterville Valley weren't much better than tilted hockey rinks yesterday, and the carnage was wide-spread. Things had improved, some, today thanks to further grooming and some snowmaking -- but 8 inches of snow would go a long way toward improving things all over the mountain. Fingers crossed, most of the outlets seem to be converging on a southern track, but still 6 to 10 inches in the southern Whites. Roemer (bestskiweather.com) also sees possibility of significant storm toward the end of the week.

Yup, we decided to hike Cannon instead of ski Waterville today -- what an amazingly clear and wonderfully mild day in the mountains!

Looking forward to a serious dump of snow as we'll be hitting the slopes next weekend!

:)

Looking like a winter wonderland this AM...

So far, so good... it started snowing lightly in Waterville Valley at about 5am, and has been light to moderate and steady since. Looks like about 2" down at 10:15am, with the visibility down to about a quarter mile in steady snow.

We're in the jackpot slot here on the frontier between southeastern NH and the Lakes Region. Just shy of 10" as of 10:45 a.m., with heavy snowfall continuing. Two inches per hour since 7:30. Better than I hoped, from looking at the radar image earlier this morning. :D :D :D

The "jackpot" fails to get mentioned on any of the news programs. We had 15" in Athol, MA as of 9 am. Probably close to 17" out there now. The air was very dry, so it's VERY fluffy snow.
