Wolf Lake Road Questions

On the maps I see a Wolf Lake Road that leads past Catlin Lake into Shattuck Clearing on the Cold River. Is this a public road? Is it in decent shape? Is there trailhead parking at/near Shattuck Clearing, or is it just a boat launch?
The road begins on 28 N, west of Newcomb.

I'm thinking about this area as an access point for a backpack into the Ouluska Leanto/Emmons Slide area. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

wolf lake road is not a public road..... check out this link http://www.dec.state.ny.us/website/reg5/hptrails.html to the dec site and about halfway down that page, under the title specific notices for the high peaks wilderness, you'll see it clearly stated in the second bulletin.

The gravel Wolf Lake Road is a fire truck road and passes through the Anna and Archer Huntington Wildlife Forest, a component of the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry. The Huntington Forest includes Goodnow Mountain and the Newcomb Interpretive Center to which SUNY allows public access. The remaining property (through which Wolf Lake Road runs) is not open to casual public use as they conduct wildlife projects there.
