Buckle up boys and girls. We have at least 8 pages of fun coming!!!
Seriously, how do you get lost on Mt. Major? I guess the backside of the trails could be confusing, but you aren't far from "civilization" no matter where you go. I used to hike that mountain every Thursday morning for 3 years. I rather liked the little peak.
A couple of November's ago I went up Belknap (1st time) in the mid-afternoon & started down the wrong trail, I went about 5 minutes before I realized it was wrong but another 10 down would have put me getting down in the dark. (does Major have multiple trails) Any bare rocky peak with multiple trails (I think of Monadnock with the maze up there) lends itself to people going down the wrong way.
A number of years ago, I and several of my friends--some of whom knew the area--got lost on a little 1/2 mile trail up in northern NH in the Dartmouth Grant. Two hours later we found our way back to a logging road--thanks primarily to one of our party who just had a d@mn good sense of direction. Otherwise we might have wondered around the Maine woods for a while.
