    NH48 Winter Record Attempt 1/16/10 -

Huge congrats on the team effort displayed here. I always thought that given a good week and a half of weather and snowpack that the 10 days, though an impressive feat, was doable at some point for someone. 7.5 days...this will likely stand for some time. Just unbelievable!

    Your favorite photos of 2009

Great shots so far... This year, though I spent alot of nights up in the mountains, the light rarely happened for me while on designated hiking photo trips. However, I did witness some good light and scenes while not hiking, and thats what is represented here... In chronological order...My...

    Your favorite photos of 2009

How bout a "Top 9 of '09" How fast the year goes by...seems a bit early for a retrospective, with a few good weeks to go...but indeed, soon I'll be traveling to see family and friends for the holiday's and the hiking year will be over... There's a good bit of history for these threads...

    Blue Job Mt. 12/12/09

That's a great little mountain, and the fire tower is worth heading back to. I'm suprised how strong the snow gradient is in the SE part of the state right now. 2" at the mass line, about 4-5 inches of crud in Epping, and it looked great there!

Planning an above-treeline hike Saturday 11/28? Be careful...

Well...predictions seem to be right on...it just gusted to 137 on the summit...sustained at 108mph! That'll get your attention! Winds are forecast to peak between 7 and 10am by my rough analysis this morning...

I think the disadvantage of creative commons licenses is loss of control. When you allow others to use your photos without contacting you first, your photos can be used in association with well, anything, and by anyone. Add the requirement that credit must be given, and who knows what you...

Sad to report another death on Mt. Washington

I had just heard this...very sad! Knowing little of the circumstances, I will post the weather from the past few days. This morning the summit was glistening with fresh ice after a recent warm spell...sadly and tragically it looked very slick...

Potential wind problems on Saturday, 10/31/09

Pete is exactly right. The observers make the higher summits outlook every day for 36 hours out. No such product exists from the national weather service, so the Obs has filled that void. The only product the Obs uses from the national weather service is the valley forecast.

Photographer Robert Kozlow Featured on WMUR-TV (local NH channel)

Bob and I crossed paths quite a bit when I was up at the Obs. He is a really nice guy with a great artistic style and a true dedication to the white mountains. Great to see he got this feature...it's well deserved. His book sits on my coffee table and is a constant source of inspiration! I...

Fall colors and seasonal change thread

I went on a photo tour of some new areas this morning, around the towns of Milford, Wilton, Lydeborough and Hillsborough, NH. I've not really toured these areas, but they are quintessential New England Villages, surrounded by rolling hills and marked with a steepled church and meeting house. I...

Fall colors and seasonal change thread

A few pics... Great pictures in this thread... Especially enjoyed Taconic's and Tim's recent shots! I'll add two of mine from the Kank Sunday... and... Also...if you didn't see the trip report for it...this is Chocorua at sunrise from North Moat Mountain this past weekend!

    Moat Mountain Sunrise...

Definately not going to get this right out of the camera. I use a range of graduated neutral density filters to hold back the sky and allow the foreground detail to balance out. Once the filters are on...yup...straight from the camera! Here's a description...though I use a brand called...

    Moat Mountain Sunrise...

Thanks! It's a labor of love, hardly work! The only 'grunt' part of it is slogging up the tripod! It's a joy to see a sunrise from a summit...and better to share the experience with those who appreciate it!
