    Hubba Hubba

I have a hubba hubba and think it's a great tent. I use it with my wife on canoe camping and backpacking trips. Plenty of room for us and our 50lb dog. There is an entrance on both sides with vestibules so both people have their own entrance and room to stow their pack. excellent ventilation...

    Monclair Glen Lodge - VT

I went by Montclair Glen last weekend. The renovations look like they have been completed and it is now open for overnight use. Trails in the area were in great shape.

Bobcats on the rise in NE

In the last 4 years I've been lucky enough to see 2 bobcats in central vermont. Before that I had never seen one. From my in depth perspective they are definitely on the increase! :)

    hand warmers

I've used one of these before. They do provide nice heat. The down side is that they also give off an odor of burning charcoal. It will make your coat smell. I used it often while ice fishing and would keep it in my coat pocket. It was an old beat up winter coat that I didn't care about...

Karl will be finishing on Springer sometime late tonight. I'm impressed that he could stay motivated to finish even though he new early on that the record was out of reach. Way to go Karl!

    N.H. Barred Owls in Trouble

Here in central vermont I feed the birds. In 15 years I have never had so few birds at our feeders as this year. Other neighbors report low bird #'s but friends in other towns report normal numbers. No signs of cats in the neighborhood. I'm wondering about a localized illness or maybe they...

    GPS info needed!

Another vote for the Garmin 60CSX. I have a 10 year old magellan and just upgraded. The new garmin locks onto satellites quickly and in difficult conditions. It had no trouble picking up satellites in thick softwoods that were loaded with snow. I almost bought a cheaper vista model but went...

Any unplowed mountain roads for early x-country skiing in NE?

Smugglers Notch Vermont Route 108 Skied through the notch today. Hard, dense base with 2 to 3'" of fresh powder on top. Pretty good early season conditions. Fast snow made for a fun downhill.

    Have longboard, will travel

I didn't know what a longboard was until I read the Burlington Free Press this morning. They have a picture of a guy who took a bad spill longboarding down route 108 in Smugglers Notch yesterday. He is the owner of a skateboard shop in Burlington and the article said "his condition at press...

    Injured Moose in Mahoosuc Notch

Wow! I guess that is a dangerous place for moose. When I hiked through there in 87 there was a dead moose right next to the trail in the bottom of the notch. I hear he was pretty well preserved for a couple of months due to the cool temps in there.

    Bugs in VT

I spent The night of friday June 1st on the side of Camel's Hump. Black Flies were fairly thick and biting. No problems while hiking but they swarmed when sitting still and eating dinner. Trails are in great shape!

Making Safe Drinking Water (on the trail)

I have purchased a steripen and have used it on 3 trips so far. I previously used iodine,a filter, boiling or used sources that "looked" good. The unit is very lightweight which is great for backpacking and it makes a litre of water suitable for drinking in about 90 seconds. One drawback is...

Trip report to Hydro-Photon, the makers of the Steripen

Lawn Sale, Thanks for all the info. I'm thinking of adding the steripen to my equipment. The ease of use and light weight is appealing. How does the unit "know" to shut off once disinfecting is complete? I'm assuming you can use it in different size drinking containers. Does the unit work...
