Looking for a Unique place to bring non-hiking wife for a couple of nights

BrentD22, I've been in your situation and I've been married for over 30yrs. If you have the time and cash forget the cabins in the Northeast. Do a google for some resort in the virgin island (passport not needed). Or any warm weather area with ocean beach. I sure your wife would love it. Good...

Severe wind chills, why would one go to the summit

Yep, we had a good size group that weekend. One of our friends from Co had a fatal accident during the summer on a 13k peak in Co. He had always wanted to climb Mt Washington. So we had a service for him at the summit with some of his ashes. I like your motto. Also, I'm with you, pass on the...

Severe wind chills, why would one go to the summit

I can understand a challenge but at -60 to -70 with perhaps at lest a hour plus of hiking above treeline might be as dangerous as hiking into a high avi setting. Granted having all the right equip, no exposed skin, experience, etc.. is mandatory. However, there's not much room if at all for...

Severe wind chills, why would one go to the summit

Mount Washington Observatory posted severe wind chills (-60 to -70). Question: would people really try a summit attempt with that kind of forecast? Or an I just a baby?

Close encounter with a rattle snake, what's the best reaction?

Thinking about it, just hearing the rattle and not seeing the snake is what most likely freaked me out the most. Interesting information about the milk snake, thanks. Anyone know how far north the timber rattle's range is in the east?

Close encounter with a rattle snake, what's the best reaction?
