    Winter Gathering??

Whoops - you are right, I messed up the dates. And I agree - can't count the win before the final seconds are off the clock. Well, thats good news, then, no matter what I'll be able to make it up there for Friday night and maybe get in a hike on Saturday before heading back.

    Winter Gathering??

This is the weekend that the Pats will be playing their first playoff game. If the Pats are playing on Sunday, I might be there on Friday night and leave early on Saturday night. Otherwise, I'm gonna have to pass on this one.

Franconia Ridge Loop: Cold and Clear - 11/24/07

Yea, it was a very good day for sure. Couldn't have asked for better conditions - the weather was cold but not windy, the waterfalls were awesome and the views were as good as it gets. Thanks Mats to coming up with the idea and mtnma and mtnpa for being fantastic hosts. Jake and I had a great...

Madison via Valley Way - 11/10/07

It was good running into you and Amy on Madison. I was really exausted when I saw you guys the first time and I was still on my way to the summit. I had somewhat recovered when I caught back up to you on Valley Way, but I was definitely "swiming" in my head a little bit. It was great to have...

An Epic hike through King Ravine 11/10/07

It sucked that I was just in front of you guys and didn't know it. I had wanted to go up King Ravine myself, but I was already tired just getting to the base of the Ravine. That 8" of snow on the boulders made for some really difficult hiking - not enough to pack down, too much to find solid...

new memorial plaque on Mount Clay

Since I started this whole debate with my choice of words, I guess I'll chime in here. I am not going to get into private vs. public or all the other stuff mentioned here. Instead, I am going to stick to addressing this issue - is the plaque vandalism. Litter is probably an incorrect term...

new memorial plaque on Mount Clay

I disagree with you guys who think that reporting the plaque was over the top. I think that making a plaque and mounting on a prominent peak in the whites without asking anyone is a pretty entitled thing to do. To do something like this is to assume that the mountain is yours and that you are so...

Water sample collected from Carrigain well

Its not reckless, its a choice. While I know there is bad water out there, and I wouldn't want the USFS to promote free dirnking, I've been hiking and backpacking for 10 years and come across bad water exactly once. My personal experience tells me that the water issue, while real, is very...

Water sample collected from Carrigain well

Count me in as one that is very interested in the results. Bottom line, I'd drink the water from the well anyway, so I won't be influenced. But can we stop trying to hold everyone's hand and make sure that nobody does anything stupid at any time ever? I mean, so what if someone drinks bad water...

Water sample collected from Carrigain well

Well, I have drank from the well twice and didn't get sick. OH NO!! I just kicked off a flurry of people who are going to drink from the well... The horror!

    toll increase in NH

The tolls are going up not because New Hampshire is being fiscally irresponsible, but because road contrustion costs have increades 45% in the last 5 years. All of the 10 year estimates for road projects in the state have been blow up, there there is a one BILLION dollar gap between money...

BBQ'ing on the top of peaks

I think this might be illegal in wilderness areas... Federal regulations clearly state that you can only cook un-marinated steaks over a natural fire.

5th Annual Adirondack BBQ and Hiker Gathering

Ugh... Back in November I became a ..... MANAGER. Ugh. Since then, I spend a lot less time on the computer and lot more time on the phone. Oh, and I had a hernia operation, so that knocked me out of things for a while too. :) After 6 months, tho, I am finally starting to get a hang of this...

Maroon Bells Wilderness; Four Pass Loop

You can do it in 3 days, but it will be 3 tiring days - especially if you run into some bad weather, which we did. With 4 days, you will have time to linger around and maybe do some side trips as well. Its an awesome loop, so its worth it to take your time. We managed to park right at the...

    Moose vs Helicopter

Yea, stories like this make we wonder exactly WHY this moose had to be shot with a tranq gun. What was this study about? Exactly how important was this experiment that they were doing? Seems like a lot of animals get hurt/killed by people trying to study them. It would be curious to see exactly...
