Don't mess with choppers, either, the poor moose had to be euthanized... :(

Yea, stories like this make we wonder exactly WHY this moose had to be shot with a tranq gun. What was this study about? Exactly how important was this experiment that they were doing? Seems like a lot of animals get hurt/killed by people trying to study them. It would be curious to see exactly what benefits come out of studies like this one. :mad:

It's not an experiment, it's part of an ongoing moose management program for Gustavus. The moose are tagged with GPS radio collars to learn more about where they spend time, find food and birth calves. Moose moved into Gustavus after glacial retreat in the 1960s opened a route for them. There is virtually no natural predation on them because of their location, so the population has zoomed in recent years.
