Anyone leaving from NYC?

If so would you possibly care to give me a ride? Please, please, pretty please :)

I will help out with gas, tolls, and driving. I haven't hiked all summer and am literally dying to get out of the city and climb some good mountains again. The dacks would be perfect for me right now, not to mention the fun it would be to get together with more VFTT'ers, see old friends and meet new ones.:)

I bet this shindig is going to be a LOT larger than the recent Town of Lewis Bicentennial, this past weekend. Any fireworks? anyone call the Grucci Brothers?

Kids hikes: There are a few nice, EASY mountains in the area -- Gilligan Mt, Coon Mt, which is right near the shindig; Pokomoonshine, which ,other than the fat that it's straight up for the first half mile, seems to attract families; there's Owl Head Lookout on route 9N (Giant Wilderness Parking area). there is a nice swimming hole part way to the lookout; Baxter Mountain is about a mile with grand views of the Dixes.

Also, Owls head in Keene off Route 73. Giants Nubble or Washbowl from Route 73. Blueberry Cobbles from Route 9 in New Russia (5 miles south of Elizabethtown), near Gilligan Road -- not where Mt. Gilligan trailhead is, though (it's a mile father south). The Crows, at the end of O'Toole road is a nice hike to either Big or Little Crow. Lost Pond on the Nundago Ridge is another nice destination -- you may meet retired DEC Ranger Pete Fish who is out nearly daily, doing trail maintenance, up there.

On Blue Ridge road -- exit 29, Northway, one can drive abotu twenty miles to Goodnow Mt -- 1.8 miles to the summit and often filled with kids. Also, toward ADK Loj, Rocky Falls and Mt. Jo are nice hikes. Split rock mtn, on Rte 22, near the shindig has some nice, easy trails. Some go to high points and others to the lake.

There's a beach at Lincoln Pond, near the DEC Campground -- County route 7 from E-town.

Have fun!!

Another "newbie?"

OK, I've been viewing this site for several years, as it tends to be the best for updated trail conditions,etc...tonite I've read 9 pages of posts re Spence and Maddies big blast and I'm hooked! My loving bride has been after me for several years to meet some folks I can hike with (rather than alone?) and from the posts I can't think of a better way to convince her that I may be better off alone! At least that might be her estimation! Still, if we can make it ( and I don't know why not) would love to stop at the gathering and at least share some good brew! See you all on the slopes or at the campfire!

I'm crashing your party.

Yup, I'm crashing it. Will bring booze. If Hickey puts that's damn axe down, I might be able to make room in the truck to drag his bike around.

Dr. Wu In Person

I'd like to say that Dr. Wu is a likely at this point. MF's here want me to work but I said to shove it. I don't work weekends. Will try to make Friday if possible.

-Dr. Wu

I say Pete keeps the axe out unless we see a Prada backpack on PhillyGeo!

Basin and Saddleback?

Anyone interested in doing Basin and Saddleback on Sat.?

Wish List:
Fri: Meet P&A somewhere as they return from their 115 finish! May do Wright, Algonquin, Iroquios (or part of - reading up now!)
Sat: Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge
Sun: Big Slide
Mon/Tues/Wed/Thu:??? (I'm staying in the area until Wednesday or Thursday, peakbagging)

Anyone is welcome to join me. A Key Swap hike on Saturday would be most welcome!

wow, that's pretty cool...wouldn't want to do that in the winter, or maybe that's a real hiking test. thx for info..gotta use that term to impress the soccer parents when i get back..

Musical Instruments.

This is a call for all musiciens to be sure and bring their instruments.

On thursday myself and RDL will be doing the Erminebrook Slide. We plan on camping out the night before at 2500 feet en route to the slide's base. Anyone who wants to join us is welcome. From the slide top we'll bushwhack to Santa's summit. You can spot a car at the Santanoni TH and exit there.

On Saturday we plan on topping out on Emmons via the slide from the Cold River. Anyone who wants to join us on that leg of our trip is welcome also.

Poor RDL has to go home to Buffalo right afetr our hike but I plan on making the gathering as early as possible for post hike libations.

My guitar is coming with me.
Unhh, some people refer to their guitar as their axe. Just what do you plan on bringing?
Does your "axe" go "zing-a-ling" or "Chop-chop" ?

Only my voice this time - while it's tempting to bring the digital piano and an extension cord, the back of my car has limited cargo capacity at the moment, until I can get to a junkyard and get some replacement interior pieces.

Don't leave your car open in a campground. You never know what critter might decide it's a privy.

Tentative plans so far. Still got a few hoops to jump through here at work (god, I wish these people would stop dying  ), but, so far……….

Looks like Kate and the kids will definitely be coming in on Saturday afternoon for the big bash. Right now, I’m hoping to get off that day (look good so far) and join them for an early afternoon arrival. If not, I’ll arrive later that night. Then, if Spence & Brian don’t kill us on a planned bushwhack Wednesday, and we’ve sufficiently healed, my son and I will be heading into Sawteeth Range for Spence and Brian’s hopeful ADK100 finish. Nick and I have been fortunate to have bagged no fewer than 13-15 of peaks on this list with one and/or the both of them in the last year and we’d consider it and honor to be with them for their completion of this GRUELING list. Should be pure joy with a hangover to boot :D.

I invited Kate and Ash to join us on that hike, however they declined (sorry guys) and they will plan on something a touch more sane for Sunday. Monday, we might do Nippletop (via the slide if it’s dry) with a hopefully well-timed summit stay to meet Sherpa and his gang up top. If not, something simple and on trail, as 3 b-whacks attempts in a week is about all I can handle.

Save us a tent space. Look forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.
