First of all I can guarantee it will be warmer than 6.5 at the Loj.

I did this last August, and it was a good time. We had a ton of food and a nice group hike up Big Slide.

I would like to do it again. Similar to last year, and at my place in Westport.

Next the dates will be August 20-22, and will be set as any other gathering. There will be a pot luck dinner on saturday. I will supply the meat for the grills.

There will be no difficult camping arrangements to be made, because everyone is welcome to crash in my backyard. Just ask anyone who joined us last year, there's a ton of space. Room for hundreds of tents. I have no neighbors real close by, so noise won't be a problem. There is a huge bonfire pit in the back for a conversation center piece. What's a gathering without a fire? There is also a pool for anyone to use, so bring your swimsuits; again skinny dipping might not be apprecited by some, or appropriate by others, but who am I to say.

We only had one sole person to spend the night last year, but his tent was big enough for everyone. I hope more of you will take me up on the offer.

As with other gatherings, I'm sure there will be multiple hikes going out all three days. My house is just of exit 32 of the Northway--I87. It is located 15 minutes from the East Trail up Giant and Rocky Peak Ridge. A half hour from Keene and the Great Range (Garden, Saint Huberts). 45 minutes to an hour from the Adirondack Loj and Lake Placid. 45 minutes from the Dix's at Elk Lake; and one hour from Upper Works. The Sewards are the furthest at 1.5 hours. Whiteface is around an hour away, but skiing in August is about as popular as the black fly.

Well I think I covered it all, if anyone has any questions please ask. I would like to surpass the Winter Gathering number of 40 attending.

All interested please reply here.

Shizzmac--bring your grill, not like you would leave it behind anyhow.

Oh ya-- we did a local beer swap last year that was pretty cool. So bring a six pack or more of a local beer in your area to share, and try one from another.

I welcome you to post this over at adkforum as well...

And I'm definitely interested in attending :).

Peak_bgr,

This is very generous of you. I had a great time at the winter gathering this year. I am definitely interested. I do have one question--what about bathroom facilities? It seems that we would probably overwhelm the capacity of your home plumbing.

CM

Lyle--As for the bathroom facilities. I have 2 bathrooms and alot of trees. I think that should do. I know a guy who has a crappy job, maybe I could get a pota-potty or two from him, for the weekend.

>>All interested please reply here. <<

i'll come again, it was nice meeting everyone last year.

Sounds fun. I've never hiked in NY and I've been planning to get out there this year. See you in August.

Sounds awesome - thank you so much!

I'm certainly going to try to make it; I'm running out of available vacation days so I won't know for sure for a bit...

Thanks for the offer, peak_bgr! We have put it down on the calendar. Assuming all goes well, we should have our 46 by then. If for some reason we haven't finished them, perhaps we'll be able to finish that weekend. We're saving Haystack for last. Looking forward to putting faces with names.

Thanks for all the great responses. I'm upto 12 yes's and 6 maybe's, and only a couple days in.

Sherpa--I can't gurantee no rain, but I'll look into a way to tarp in a large area for back-up shelter. Good thought.

I'll try again. This time, I won't do two tough days in the Dix Range just before the gathering. I'll already be a 46r! Thanks for the invitation. -ALG
