Of course I realize there's tons of good literature on the subject. I've read some of it, even some articles by Houston. This thread was to see what the opinion of this group is. Without knowing each person's individual training or experience I would not consider these to be professional opinions on the subject (although some may be). My initial question was just looking for a broad range of responses from a non-professional group.

I keep adding details because this was a real situation that was brought to my attention. All of the responses thus far are just speculation as none of us were there. But that's all I wanted was speculation. Speculation is what I got, that's awesome. Thanks.

The Little Blue Pill and AMS

You're going to think I am juking you, but no: recent studies have found that Viagra can help reduce or forestall the effects of AMS. Here's a pretty decent summary:

Web MD article on Viagra and AMS

On the bright side, for at least 50% of the population, it could also reduce the need to carry an ice-axe for winter conditions as well. :p

I know some people who participated in a study with viagra. The whole things is too damn funny. :D

Viagra can be quite benificial at high altitude. Not only does it open blood vessels to allow more oxygen to flow to the brain (to prevent HACE), it also can help a guy from falling into a crevasse... :D

Are you giving any lessons on this self rescue technique or just talking from experience?
