Snow?
Cool-thought you'd figure that out. It sure doesn't seem like winter around here (LA). It's been in the high 80's. It's been cold at Mammoth, but I don't think they've got anything in the way of snow either. BTW, the place in Truckee with the Karhus for rent is called "The Back Country"--web address www.thebackcountry.net They're right on Donner Pass Road; they've also got a store in Tahoe City on the South Shore. I sent them an email today, so we'll see if they still have them.
There is another thread on cross-country skis here and one of posters linked to another site where a couple of people recommended just using shorter, fatter XC skis with something called a Berwin binding-apparently you can wear a Sorel or similar boot with them-they kind of look like a snowboard binding without the backing plate.
