Appropos the recent thread on common injuries, this AP report says "ankles." Thanks to AVSAR and NH F&G, the injured hiker is out and under treatment.

Rescuers find Appalachian Trail hiker with injured ankle
GORHAM, N.H. New Hampshire Fish and Game officers have rescued a 62-year-old Virginia hiker who injured his ankle.

George Gault, of Virginia Beach, started to hike the Appalachian Trail in Gorham, New Hampshire yesterday, heading toward Maine. But he injured his ankle last night and decided to hike out this morning.

Fish and Game Lieutenant Douglas Gralenski says Gault suffered an even worse injury to his ankle this morning and called authorities on his cell phone around six a-m. Fish and Game conservation officers and members of Androscoggin Valley Search and Rescue found him on Mount Hayes this morning and helped him out. He's being treated at the Androscoggin Valley Hospital in Berlin (BERR'-linn).

Gralenski says Gault has hiked large sections of the Appalachian Trail every summer for the last three years and had hoped to hike the Maine section this year.
