Decided to go up Canon Mountain today. It was so beautiful out...nice temp, blue skies with a touch of a couple clouds, what more could you ask for?
I decided on the Hi Canon Trail. The last time I did this was 12 years ago. I guess I fogot how close the drop offs look and that ladder didn't look as sturdy as it used to. Anyways...had a wonderful time hiking with Matthew. He loved the up even though I was thinking my fear of heights has gone up a couple of notches. I guess I was made of sturdier material back then. I don't remember being overly worried about my other 2 kids falling over the side of the mountain.
There were several people on top but most of them took the tram. They looked horrified that someone would walk from the bottom. One person didn't even know there were trails to climb up. It was funny. We also got to watch the glider in Sugar Hill be taken up and float around. It was wonderful. I could have stayed there all day.
We decided to take the Lonesome Lake trail down because the thought of doing the ladder and that section after it with Matthew scared me. I also talked to some people who came up the Lonesome Lake trail and they said it wasn't as bad. I do have to say the beginning part of the Lonesome Lake trail was steep but atleast didn't seem like I was falling off a "cliff". There were a couple of scary sections where you thought, "where did the trail go...down the side of the mountain?" but after we got past that, it was nice.
Met an aggresive red squirrel on the way down...He was actually chasing us...come to find out, he had a stash of food behind the rock and once we got past, he sat on the rock and ate it.
The bugs were few and far between, the only thing that we didn't like about this hike is the tiny pebbles that were on the trails...Matthew slipped a couple times and has a nice scratch on his bum....Oh well. Overall, what a great day to be outside!!!
