Is the trail from Cranmore to Black Cap skiable? I can see the trail on some maps, but scant details about it. It seems quick and easy....

the ends

I've biked the Cranmore trail towards Black Cap many times; never tried it on skis. It climbs gradually from Cranmore in generally open woods and would probably be a decent cross country ski provides there's enough cover. There are some flat spots.

Access from the Cranmore end might be an issue. There's no easy way to get there without crossing ski trails. The Black Cap end requires travel on an active snowmobile trail. The best access would probably be coming up the Red Tail mountain bike trail from Hurricane Mountain Road. This is more skiing than the Cranmore Trail itself.

There's a lot of skiing from the Pudding Pond trail head. After a good storm, you will see tracks towards Peaked Mountain. It would be a good ski up the Black Cap connector to Black Cap. There's some rolling terrain though.

Thank you!!

I was able to find some details on the trails around Peaked that you mention. I wondered about the Black Cap Connector, seems like it might fit.

I'm regurgitating this old thread I started as I have the same trip planned this year. Last year, we ran into rain and (as we all know) very little snow so I never followed through with my plan. This year seems more promising.

My question is has anyone skied up the Black Cap Connector? I have found a few trip reports where it's been biked, and some of it is a snowmobile trail, so that is promising. My end goal is to be dropped of at or near the base of Cranmore Ski Area, with the hope of spending a day in the woods and finishing back at the base lodge. It appears that the Black Cap Connector (and the few minor trails at the start) to the Mt. Cranmore Trail is about 6 miles, most of which would be gaining elevation. I would then hop onto an easy trail on Cranmore to come down.

Thnx
