For the last hike of our week in the Whites last week we did Isolation and knocked #43 off our list. What a fabulous day! Perhaps all those people telling stories about how bad the Rocky Branch and Isolation trails are have a plan to keep everyone away. We know the secret now...

Here's the long version of the story: http://theramblingsblog.blogspot.com/2012/07/finding-bit-of-isolation.html

and a peek at just what a terrible place this is

What's up with the hanging rock???? Was it the other end of a bear bag or really marking the trail there??

Nice TR!

Great trip report. I did this route this spring when there was still snow and ice on the ground higher up. I have looked forward to going back when things were green. I remember the hike as being a nice long walk through the woods with no real bad or hard sections. The view of Mt. Washington is well worth a hike back. It is one of the few pictures I have hanging at work in my cubicle.

Mark,
A nice addition to your 48 list. As you said it really wasn't as bad as has been reported by some in the past. Sometimes you can't anticipate what a trail will present; the only way is finding out firsthand. But in the case of Isolation and Owl's Head you've lessened a bit of apprehension for us. Such a terrific day. Thumbs up on the Snickers Bar; a good energy booster.
Won't be too long before you both finish up.

Donna:)
