Had you let me know, I would have happily brought of 12-24 oz of beer up for you (to your 80 lbs of cable) so that you could of had a luke warm one for your hard work.

Seriously, nice work.

JR & I met Dan & Liz at the Cabin Saturday morning. After a cup of tea, we fixed up our packs with three heavy spools of steel cable, 375 feet of garden hose, assorted tools, plus the usual: lunch water, first aid, etc.

I don't move fast with a heavy pack. Especially when walking on steep slippery rocks. Although we passed a couple groups of dayhikers, it was still slow, taking us about 2 hours to get from the ranger cabin to the Gothics/Saddleback col.

We spend about an hour threading a cable through a garden hose. I'ts nice on the hands, but we would have been there until midnight. We need some kind of lubricant to get that thing through, so, for now, one section has the hose covering.

Sorry, I'm not a web-guy. No nice formatting, fonts, etc.

Hmmm I haul 80 pounds ob cable & host, and grumpy gets the beer. I guess that shows the difference between management and the workers.
OK. OK!

I hereby (and humbly) assign my interest in the Peakbagr six-pack to Pete and his Gothics cable crew. I also pledge to buy a round for the crew or any of its members when and if ever we at last meet face-to-face.

Thanks for your efforts. You guys represent the best of what the NE hiker community has to offer.

Peakbagr's right on the money when he says this one is a winner whether you're paying up or raking it in on the "will the cables be replaced" bet.

Wonderful photos, too, Pete. Appreciate your sharing those, as well.

G.

Pete - many thanks to you and the others who perform trail maintenance and make it easier for all of us to hike. Certainly, beer(s) for you the next time our paths cross.
