Don't knock that section, it's beautiful and certainly less strenuous that the CVR approach. Sure it's a bit long and I would spot cars rather than including the long road walk to make a loop but I'm always looking for an alternative to up and back if I can avoid it. You never know what you might find.

Eric - we did the longggggg walk from N Crocker to Rte 27 after having done S.Crocker, Redington, S. Crocker, and N. Crocker - next time we will go back to S. Crocker - the col between the two isn't too bad and the return to CVP Road via S Crocker would be much more appealing - it was a long long long end to a hike by following the AT - or should I say chasing MEB and MichaelJ.

My only trip over the Crockers was from 27 over N & S down to CVR & then the road walk back. (The best views IMO are from the open slopes of South Crocker)

Having done that if I was so inclined to do the Crockers again (I can't see this happening unless my kids decide to do the NE67) with one car, I'd probably back track on the trail vs. the road walk although CVR resembles the bottom 1/2 of Tucks, Lincoln Woods or parts of the Van H. although less shade. ;)
