Spectacular spring day in the woods. Blue skies, warm temps, light breeze and first wildflowers popping up everywhere. We first whacked Hodge Pond Mt which was Maddy's next to last summit and a new one for 2 others in our group.
As we were putting packs back on for the hike down to the pond for lunch, a bear cub started calling for Momma bear. The cub was about 75' and wailing like it was being tortured. We flew off the summit, not knowing how far away Momma was and could still hear the cub 0.25mile away as we kept moving quickly.
After lunch at Hodge Pond, it was up to Mongaup Mt for Maddy's final summit. Someone noted that of the 7 participants( 6 bipeds and one quadraped) there were 5 finishers including Maddy. The weather, temps, sun, new flowers coming out, bear cub and congenial group made the day that no one wanted to end. Back at remote Shin Creek Rd, Ralph and Maddy broke out venison jerky and a cooler of cold beer to go along with the snacks Dick and Jo brought.

Its been my pleasure to enjoy Ralph and Maddy's company for some time, and to hike many of Maddy's Catskill 100 peaks with them. Two fine friends and accomplished hikers. I hope you enjoy the link to the photos that commemorate the day.
