Not many peaks this year, but lots of trips into valleys, gulfs, slides, and passes in search of an isolated area to take a turn or two.

Winter's Over?

Just 1, Street Mountain on New Years Eve, which was also the only new ADK 46’er I hiked in 2005. Things have been so busy, that winter just flew by me.

Just one on a 4K list - Wildcat D from Carter Notch Rd

attempted Isolation - turned around near jct with Davis Path.

Black and N/S Doubleheads in Jackson.

My excuse is I coached my son's DI team and went to all of his hockey games. :)

Starr King and Waumbeck - according to the 2005 plan this was supposed to be #48 with wife and dogs along for the celebration. I did have their company for a great hike; unfortunately I didn't get to Owl's Head or N. Twin earlier! Since the family won't be along for those 2 we had a psuedo-celebration.

Potash

The col on the way to East Pond from the Kanc - (its the high point on the trail, anyway).

Jayne's Hill, the LI highpoint (a 400 ft er) located 2 mile from where I grew up.

Only 9 that "count" on a list, my slowest winter in the past 8 years. Even my post rate here on VFTT slowed down recently

If only that damned thing called "work" wasn't in my way... :)

None for Trailbiscuit and I. Winter is our time to xc ski, although with the winter we've had, we might have been better off trying to hike than ski a lot of weekends :D

Ah well... it is now spring and our sights (or at least mine!) turn back to hiking, and knocking some miles off our remaining 600+ on the AT! :)

ok - I hit one 1 -10 lets see as I count them up now.

washington - 3 times this "winter"
adams
Jefferson
Lincoln
Haystack
Flume
Liberty

also did a a few of weekends of ice climbing.

Man I have no idea  I dont count peaks in NH where I climbed this winter BUT I have not missed hiking at every week since winter began.

using my hands and toes...

and assuming that none have been lost to frost bite, I made two complete rounds plus 2 thumbs UP!!
As compared to last year, when I did a fist full plus a pinkie.

I guess I have gotten used to the higher price of gas and have decided to make some friends so that I have a commitment to get me outa bed so early in the AM!

Blessed with great friends and fine hiking,
Inge :)

Once again, you continue to astound me :)

Thanks to the "anything with a name" rule, I barely made it into the next highest category, 21-30.
Despite serious struggles with my inner wimp this winter, I managed...

41 miles on the CT AT

10 of the ADK 46
1 Sawtooth (Adk's)
9 NH 4k's
1 CT named peak on the AT-Mt. Prospect, towering 1,461' above sea level!
---
21 peaks

why so little? work and illness and family and etc.

Yup, those important things have a way of coming first....

Most winters I have the opportunity to stand on top of NH's 5ks, but only 2 this winter. And maybe about 5 other peaks, 3Ks and 4Ks.
And one prominent 2937' mtn about 10 times.

This was the first winter I've almost looked forward to summer!

I managed 34 this winter. :) The last two I did in the Cats didn't seem like winter, but I guess that's OK because five I did in the Whites and four I did in the Dax in November and early December sure felt like January climbs! :D

Let's see - Wachusett (three times skinning up with new backcountry skis with runs down the ski area), Monadnock, Cannon, Chorcorua. Not much of a season for hiking. I did finish the all-season WM 48 on Carrigain in November hiking with my brother. I also climbed Willeys Slide (3 times), Kinsman Notch, Some unnamed location in Southern NH, Cinema Gully, An attempt up Central Coulour on Webster, North End of Cathedral, Champney Falls, Auburn Ice Canyon and two pitches in Pinnacle Gully. Not bad for a "mediocre" ice year.

40: some twice, some thrice, most not at all. Broke both snowshoes and crampons, boots are questionable, pants are ripped, all my clothes stink. Kayaked only once. Xc skied little. Ice fished once. Skated and camped nonce.
Ate 10lbs of nuts, 2 bushels of dried fruit (no raisons), 5 bags m&ms, countless pbjs, candy bars, 2 dog biscuits. Drank 80+ litres gatorade, 40 cups soup, hot chocolat,100 gallons black coffee(to and from).
Had a great time. Met lots of new faces. Less than 9 months to go!

Not bad for my first winter of hiking

Here's the summits I managed to visit this winter:
--New Hampshire--
Carter Dome
Middle Carter
South Carter
Jackson
Waumbek *
Starr King *
--Vermont--
Stratton
--Massachusetts--
Ragged
Watatic *
Fisher Hill *
Blueberry Hill *
Hunger *
Tom
Tully
Deadtop
Whiting Peak
Nonotuck
Goat Peak
Great Blue Hill *
Rattlesnake Hill *
Nahanton Hill *
Fiske Hill *

* = solo'd

Not sure if these count

Real peak? I'd have to sadly say ZERO

I've been pushing the midnight oil and have only been out a few times in the Hudson Valley
-West Mntn, Taurus, Breakneck Ridge, Sugarloaf (Hudson Highlands).

I'd call 'em all very nice 'bumps'.

my first winter 4K is Killington, which is the only one done. There are other winters aheah to bag more peaks.
