Here are some shots I took in NC last year, while hiking Harper Creek, near the Blue Ridge Parkway and Grandfather Mtn.

These guys were generally mesh-muzzled to keep them from nibbling rare or toxic plants.
We were told: "You can pet them, but DON"T Grab their Horns". Duh.

Have also encountered llamas being used as pack animals. Their mild scent reportedly repels bears.
