Right now I am out in NY, and I thought I'd share some photos of a few small hikes and adventures I've been on. I plan on going for at least one more hike tomorrow (95 deg...what am I thinking??) But I figured I would post a bunch of photos of my adventures. So here they are, in somewhat chronological order....

This may be a stretch, but the feeling of this photo reminds me of pics taken in the Serengeti

Are stray cats considered wildlife?? You'd never know it looking at this one...

GK,
thank you so much for all the memories of my "home turf". I grew up in Elmira and have been to all the places you went many times. It is always great to see a visitor's perspective  You even snagged some shots of the mighty Chemung River!

Please let me know where you snapped your photo of the town of Montour Falls. My guess is that it is from the bridge over Shequaga Falls. There are other fine viewpoints from route 414 and from Havana Glen, as well.

Hope 1Adam12 sees this TR, too!

Thanks for the TR!

Marty

Grouse King,

Where are you currently? I live about 30 min from Elmira. We should hook up and I will take you to the PA Grand Canyon for a nice easy stroll :D We have some great country down here. Shoot me a PM if you are interested and we can try and hook up.

Take care,
Adam

BTW.....nice pictures! I love this part of the state ;)

Phil . . . great stuff!

Love your photos, and love the commentary you provide about them. I guess my "pick of the litter" for this report has to be the fabulous photo you took from behind the falls during the Watkins Glen segment of your journey.

For about 8 years I lived in various locations in Upstate NY (Chenango County), and so I'm familiar with many of the locations you visited. Thanks for the memories!

More "thanks for the memories" kudos from me. (11 years in Ithaca and surrounding environs.)

+1!

Cool!

Speaking of Ithaca, Robert Treman SP just south of town was always a fave. Loved hiking the stream above the main falls and then coming down to the main falls for a swim and attempt at crossing the base of the falls with the water rushing over me. Lots of fun.:D

Regards,
Marty

Thanks Marty! We were thinking about Robert Treman park, but the heat is just going to be unbearable today, and we don't want to spend money. :) so We're going to check out a few other smaller trail in the Finger Lakes national forest and see what they are all about. Glad you liked the pics!

Concur with the above. I am originally from Buffalo, and lived in Cooperstown for about 2 years. Great photos!

Thanks Paradox! I have yet to visit Cooperstown, maybe someday.

Very nice! Pretty close to me as well...I haven't been to the Watkins Glen S.P. in several years and your pics remind me that I need to get back there. If you have time to take Adam up on his offer to show you the PA Grand Canyon, do so...well worth it! If you're heading east, toward Ithaca/Cortland, send me a pm and I can suggest some good spots in this area.

You could always park near the bridge on Rt. 13 at the FLT parking and access the park from there, or just hike the FLT, which is very nice along there. :) And there is an awesome swimming area!

Lake Ontario, Letchworth State Park

Somehow I missed posting these...Letchworth is prob the highlight thus far,

Lake Ontario...first time I've visited a Great Lake shore, up in Rochester

Hi Adam, I'm staying in Elmira, but I'm headed up to the Finger Lakes Natl forest in a couple hours. I've heard the PA Grand Canyon is pretty dang neat, so that can be a trip next time I am out here. Thanks for the offer though!

Thanks John! Watkins is beautiful, I forgot what it was like. My last visit there was when I was 8, and I don't think I appreciated the falls as much as I do now. There will be more pics coming...this is sort of a running pic thread for the time being, unless the Finger Lakes trip warrants its own trip report. We'll see.

Depending on time, we may eat in Ithaca tonight...hopefully there is somethin' good. :)

I love NY! :D
Me too, great state! Next time....Adirondacks!

Shirley, you must be kidding!

Ithaca's food scene is WAY out of league with the size of the town (most likely due to the two colleges and their multicultural students).

The restaurant scene is in a constant state of flux, with new places popping up and closing all the time, but the variety and quality is usually really good.

Haven't been out to dinner there since last fall, but if ZaZa's is still open down on Rt. 13, they have some great Italian fare.

Damn...is it lunchtime yet!? ;)
